  • One of the rarest weaves: TANGALIYA . Maroon and brown cotton TANGALIYA Saree with matching blouse piece. The pallu has intricate traditional motifs made by the weavers and the body has singke and diamond shaped motifs all over. The blouse has single dots all over.

Red stripes in the pallu and light blue border give it extra charm.

Extremely rare and time consuming and lesser known weave From Gujarat is the TANGALIYA weave. What looks like dots here is actually created by the weaver manually lifting warp yarns (typically six yarns) with one hand and then deftly wrapping a supplementary yarn around them with the other hand. The supplementary yarn is then broken off, and the dot is created by the supplementary yarn being slipped into place. The shuttle is then thrown across to secure the dot.

Imagine creating a pattern this complex with individual dots

Weavers work without a paper pattern or graph to guide their work – from experience they can work out where the dots need to be placed in order to create charming motifs and interesting patterns. By the nature of the technique, the dots look the same on both sides of the fabric. front and reverse.
